I had a difficult conversation with a friend of mine yesterday in which I tried to represent my intellectu-academic interests re: “the Left” and “politics.” I was completely unable to remember and communicate any of it in a coherent way. I realize now that some of my difficulties came from the fact that, insofar as I am interested in Left critique, I don’t have a strong sense of the object of my critique. Left Legalism/Left Critique is able to be so smart because it has a very clear sense of it’s subject. I talk a lot (mostly to my self, I admit) about “the Left” but don’t have any way of pinning that down to specific things, which means I get to be really slippery and maybe not say anything particularly useful. So what is this thing that I like to call “the Left?” I think this is one of the big questions that I came up with a long time ago but, like most things, had forgotten: what is the left and what does the left think it is? Relatedly, what power do we (as left-identified individuals and as the left in general) have, what power do we think we have, and what power can we have?

This is freakin’ hilarious, but maybe only for the supremely geeky amongst us. (thanks to Tom for the link)
Posted by drewbeck at March 10, 2005 01:14 PM | TrackBackhello…i know this sounds kind of strange, but someone’s been spamming blogs and signing my email address, and your blog seems to have been hit. i’m looking at the comments left at http://www.reifiedrecords.com/freeze/archives/000129.html purporting to be from a “sexy southern boy” … that’s my email address on them, but i didn’t make them. if you wouldn’t mind deleting them, i’d be very appreciative. also, i’m working with the spammer’s ISP to catch the guy; would you happen to be able to send a copy of your access logs from march 8th and 11th? we’re looking for visitors coming from IP addresses starting with 81.1., usually performing a GET and POST to your comments.cgi. thanks for you help with all this … sorry you’ve been inconvenienced.
